Research Objectives
The project addresses the existing lack of knowledge on public service management reform within the Scottish context by exploring three overarching research dimensions:
Dimension I – synthesis
Dimension II – policy and practice
Dimension III – research infrastructure
Focusing on the existing literature and outputs from the ESRC Public Services Programme, the aim of the first two dimensions, synthesis and policy and practice, is to look at the existing state of knowledge on public service reform and its relevance for the developing public services reform agenda in Scotland. The objective of the third dimension, research infrastructure, is to examine the existing public management research capacity in Scotland and explore ways in which this could be developed. To this end, the key focus is on developing and promoting a collaborative Scottish public management network.
In combination, these dimensions will produce new knowledge about public management reform in Scotland, encourage the growth of a sustainable public research community in Scotland and stimulate evidence-based public management reform, policy making and practice in Scotland.
The work forms part of the Economic and Social Research Council's Public Services Programme. It is co-sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and The Scottish Government (ESRC Reference RES-153-27-0015).
