Page 1 of 3 This article will describe the basic structure of this content managed site, so you can begin to explore some of the powerful features available to you as an administrator.
First, login to the Administrators area, by following the link http://www.scothub.org/administrator/
Before making any changes to the site, consider making a backup.
User Management:
To add, edit and change permissions for users, go to the User Manager. You can access this via the top menu, Site > User Manager.
Click a user to see their details.
Along with the basic details such as name, username etc. we have some important additions. Group defines the permissions or rights that the user has to modify the site.
There are two types of permissions, Front End and Back End. Front End is the the "public" who see the front of the site, Back End is for system administrators, who will use the /administrator entrance to the site.
Anyone who registers with the site is given the status "Front End > Registered" has the basic set of permissions to interact with features like the forum and to have a profile. This prevents the public using these features.
BackEnd permissions for the site administrator are usually set as "Back end > Super Administrator." This gives you full access rights to change every aspect of the site.
Important! When you are finished doing anything in the Admin area, DON'T press the back button, but use the Save, Apply or Close buttons at the top left of the screen.
Save: Saves your work, and returns you to the previous screen.
Apply: Saves your work, keeps you on the current page.
Close: Does not save changes, and returns you to the previous screen.
Failing to do this, "locks" the page you were viewing, preventing anyone else from editing it. You'll see a little Padlock appear by items that are "checked out" in this way. The reason for doing this is that it prevents more than one person editing any part of the site. Should you forget this, you can check back in all documents by going to Tools > Global Check in.
